Today I listened to the podcast by one of my absolute favorite industry influencers Mark Twomey (@storagezilla). The title of the podcast was The Copy Data Cortex. It featured another industry insider with a great deal of knowledge Stephen Manley, CTO of Core Technologies at EMC, and they were talking about “Copy Data”, and as Mark put it “…it isn’t the wave of the future, it is a present thing…”.

The other day I read yet another blog about the “old” ways vs. a “new” way to do data protection. The post was from startup Rubrik. Each post I read like this has great intentions. They start out with a bunch of new buzz words – the new one they talk about in this particular post, which I hadn’t heard yet, is “SLA Domains”.

I don’t know about you all, but I am really tired of hearing about tape being “dead”. As the picture shows, folks have been trying to kill off tape since 1984, that’s 30 years ago. I know for a fact that customers have tapes that are 30 years old that they can read data from. Bring me a HDD that is 30 years old and “show me the data”. You can’t!
